Jason Endean reignited his Championship bid in another qualifying session in which table-topper Thomas Kimmich failed to appear.
Endean was the fastest of the bunch on his BA Racing, outpacing second placed Ian McMah of almost one full second.
However, Kimmich showed in Australia how talent can overcome even a bad qualifying position, so only racetime will tell us what the outcome of this Japanese GP will be.
