Morris breaks Tanskanen's resistance

Lee Morris made two wins out of two races - but he had to sweat much more than in the Italian Grand Prix to gain the upper hand over an inspired Janne Tanskanen in the Spanish Grand Prix.

The CSG Racing driver, who stunned the whole field with an amazing qualifying performance, seemed set for another dominating display as he sped away in P1 after the second start of the race, the first having been abandoned due to a mass accident in turn 1. However, Morris wasn't able to fade away in the distance this time, and had the Finn from Evans Blue Racing stick with him as Championship leader Joe Consiglio settled into a rhythm in third.

Several minor tussles claimed casualties, with only 10 cars making it to the end of a particularly unforgiving race. Chris Allen, recovering from a difficult start, held on to finish 8th, with Wayne Mullins and Kieran Ryan 7th and 6th respectively. Ryan found himself in a point-scoring position for the second race in a row, a good period for the Irishman who suffered a cold streak in mid season but seems back to his usual levels of performance now. Mark Wicks finished 5th, relinquishing two further points to Consiglio in the Drivers' Championship, behind Adam Rouse in 4th.

With Joe Consiglio 3rd, the big battle remained between Morris and Tanskanen. The Finnish driver, ahead after the second round of pitstops, struggled for three laps to keep his rival behind, but in the end, the Honda engine powering Morris proved too strong to contain: with only a few laps left, the Englishman pulled the winning move and clinched 1st.

This result seals the Constructors' Championship for Nordsjoen Racing, who are now unreachable by Woods Racing, and leaves Consiglio 13 points ahead of Tanskanen with 3 races to go.
