2010 Belgian Grand Prix

Jason Muscat wrote his name in the history books of GPVWC as he triumphed in the 2010 Belgian Grand Prix, on the same track where he debuted the previous year. The Maltese ace drove a perfect race, making no mistakes and lapping everyone else in the field, ensuring his and Red Archer's first victory.

At the start, polesitter Kieran Ryan got jumped by both Muscat and Joe Consiglio, who got the lead and got tangled in an exciting, but completely clean, all-Malta battle for P1 with Muscat. The two dueled closely until lap 5 when Consiglio, defending at turn 1, was hit by an overbraking Kieran Ryan and suffered a puncture. Despite all the Nordsjoen Racing mechanics rushing out with replacement tyres, Consiglio never made it to the pits - his car spinning out of control and hitting the barriers at Eau Rouge. Freed of the former World Champion, Jason Muscat went on to increase his lead - a necessity given his strategy. In the meanwhile, the race had already lost William Ponissi and Sam Millar, both victims of spectacular Eau Rouge crashes, and had seen Mark Wicks plunge to last position after suffering a puncture and having to limp to the pits. The Cornish driver put in a marvelous performance to gain the lost ground and was the protagonist of many overtaking maneuvers, eventually finishing an excellent fourth.

As the race progressed, it became clear strategy would play an important part. A 2-stopping Jason Muscat felt under pressure by Kieran Ryan, who possibly had only one stop on the cards. However, the key moment of the race came on lap 29, when Ryan, having suffered a puncture in a spin, lost control of his car and went straight in the barriers - destroying both his chances of winning his second GP in the season and, possibly, those of his team to clinch the Constructors' title. With Ryan forced to retire, all Muscat had to do was to control his lead over Phil Perkins and an on form Jyri Lylykorpi, who had started last but managed to climb the positions with a one-stop strategy.

A late mistake by Perkins allowed CSG Racing driver Lylykorpi to clinch second place, but there was no surprise on top: the day belonged to Jason Muscat and Red Archer. As the red and black car crossed the line, jubilant scenes erupted in the Greek team's garage, with team owner Nikos Evangelidakis bursting into tears. The team which was created on the ashes of D.O.R., joined the privileged group of outfits that had won a GPVWC Grand Prix. The friendly Greek team had surely reached the Olympus.
