2010 Supercup Argentine Grand Prix

For Round 14 of the 2010 Supercup, the teams headed to Buenos Aires where the classic layout of the circuit proved to be a real challenge for both car and driver. However, the event was somewhat overshadow by controversy over the Red 5 Racing team entering three cars, causing tensions to rise within the team which eventually led Jason Muscat to switch to the rival Platform GP team.

During qualifying for the race itself, Liam Hatchell snatched pole by 3 hundredths of a second from Sam Millar, who was riding high on the back of his win at Interlagos. Jason Muscat and Wayne Mullins made up the 2nd row with the two Chris's on the third row.

The first lap saw plenty of incidents. Off the line Hatchell had an unusually slow start and slipped to 3rd behind Millar and Muscat, leaving Hatchell having to defend from Mullins and leading to the pair swapping paint through the long Turn 3. At the front Muscat slipstreamed Millar on the long backstraight, only for Millar to be caught out by the early braking of the Maltese driver at Turn 4. This sparked a couple of contacts between the lead group, causing Hatchell to drop to 5th. Further back, debutant Ryan Walker was hit by Adam Smith, causing both drivers to spin along with unfortunate Chris Williamson who got tagged as a result.

A big battle raged in the early laps between the Draig Racing and Red 5 Racing cars with several position changes. However a huge twist was in store. As the Draig cars came through the twisty infield section they both span in unrelated incidents at the same corner! Having both lost wheels they were unable to continue, throwing Chris Williamson a great chance of gaining points over both drivers in the championship fight.

As the race went on Millar slowly built a lead over his rivals, but a slow pitstop left him not far ahead of Muscat with 10 laps to go. However Muscat, Thomas & Williamson all had small dramas near the end which allowed Millar to take his 2nd win in a row ahead of Mullins. Thomas claimed 3rd ahead of Willamson, Muscat, Tim-Oliver Wagner and Walker. Williamson's 4th place meant that he closed to within 3 points of championship leader Christoph Lichtenstein.
