The 2012 Masters Series is the forthcoming fourth season of the Masters Series in the GPVWC.

Report

Race Weekend Format

Three races per 'round'. Consisting of three equal length races that last approximately 15 minutes set to an absolute lap total depending on track length. The starting grid for Race 1 will be decided by a 10 minute qualification session, the starting grid for Race 2 will be the finishing positions from Race 1 and the starting grid for Race 3 will be a reversed grid from a random position between 14-18. The race weekend schedule will be as follows:

  • Practice = 10 minutes
  • Qualifying = 10 minutes
  • Warm-Up = 5 minutes
  • Race 1 = 15 minutes
  • Race 2 = 15 minutes
  • Race 3 = 15 minutes

Series Changes

For 2012 the format of feature and sprint events has been scrapped for three equal length races.

Three car teams return for 2012 but team entry is limited to 13 in order to control grid size. Unlike last season race setups will be fully open.

The series schedule has been brought forward to an August start time in order for the series to be wrapped up in line with the rest of GPVWC's competitions although the Masters Series will still remain as the leagues finale for the year. The series will contain 19 races, the most in Masters series history. There will be 6 'normal' 3 race events as well as 1 feature length event that contains just a single race.

New for 2012 is the Novice Cup for which eligible drivers will be able to compete in a championship independant of the main series but they will be eligible to score for both. The Top 15 will score points in the main championship and the top 7 designated Novice Cup drivers will score points in their respective series.

Also new for 2012 is the introduction of success ballast, the Top 5 from races 1 & 2 at each event will carry weight ballast into the next race. Success ballast is not carried over to the next event and the feature length event will not be subject to it.
