The 2012 Supercup Australian Grand Prix - the first race of the season - took place on the Albert Park track in Melbourne on the 7th of March and was won by Rickard Hellsten.

Qualifying

It was Petter Kaasa who took the first pole of the 2012 Supercup season . With a 1:43.692 he was 0.1 seconds faster than team mate Rickard Hellsten. Pavel Loknovski managed to drive his car to the 3rd place, with Dave Carr-Smith behind him as 4th. David Fidock qualified as 5th, and Jason Muscat drove his #0 Malta Force car to 6th place. Row 4 was taken by Alex Cooper and Philip Cullen. Terence Grech took the 9th place in his GPVWC debut. Andrew Morgan took 10th and Ojay Clark qualified as 11th. Adam Rouse was 0,04 seconds to slow and qualified as 12th. Louis Wedekind started as 13th while William Tringas started as 14th. Roy Schroten took his Synergetic Motorsports car to 15th place, with Boyd Bryson filling the 8th row on a 16th place. Ric Scott qualified as 17th with Martin Bulgin next to him as 18th. Row 10 was taken by Teemu Toikka and Andrejs Pestovs, and row 11 was filled by Martin Oconnor and Alex Rolls. Mark Wicks qualified as 23th, and Wopke Hoekstra drove his car to 24th place. Experienced drivers Mal McKee and Chris Williamson took the 13th row. Tommi Koivunen qualified as 27th respectively.

Race

The start of the 2012 season saw a big crash with 7 cars involved. It was Martin Bulgin who inadvertently caused it by suddenly moving into the path of Roy Schroten who had made a flying start. the chaos was complete when William Tringas and Louis hit each other in Turn 3. As much as 10 cars were damaged for the rest of the race, and Chris Williamson, William Tringas, Martin Oconnor, Martin Bulgin and Wopke Hoekstra weren't able to continue.

At the front it was Rickard who took the lead, with Petter short behind them. The battle for the lead would last the whole race, but the Torrent drivers took no real risk.

Mal McKee crashed and lost his wheel. While he tried to drive to the pits he was disqualified for dangerous driving.

It was Rickard who was able to hold his lead to win the first 2012 Supercup race. It was only his first GPVWC race, so a good job done by him. Petter managed to drive his torrent to the 2nd place, resulting in the first 1-2 for Torrent Motorsports. Team mates Jack Nicholls and Adam Rouse took the 3rd and 4th place, resulting Hawkeye Racing to take a 3-4 place. Only the top 3 was able to stay in the lead lap, while all the others was lapped. David Fidock took the 5th place, with Philip Cullen behind him as 6th. Boyd Bryson drove his Woods Racing car over the line as 8th, and Scott Bennett did a grand job taking 9th place. The last point was for Terence Grech. Dissapointed Jason Muscat took 11th place. The Malta Force cars didn't had the speed they had last year, but they will do everything to improve. Andrejs Pestovs and Ric Scott took the 12th and 13th place. Dutchman Roy Schroten took the 14th place, with his damaged Synergetic Motorsports car. Tommi Koivunen took the 15th place. Scott Woodwiss was the last one who managed to finish the race. 10 drivers weren't able to finish.
