Report
As the curtain came down on a spectacular 2011 season, there was still one race to go, Singapore. The Singapore night race is by far one of the most difficult ones in the calendar, but nonetheless Joe Consiglio basked under the reflective gaze of the Marina Bay lights as he dominated the event to take his tenth victory of the season.
Qualifying
Qualifying quickly came and went with Nordsjoen driver Consiglio taking a commanding pole position by well over a second. A battle was brewing though behind as the Constructors title was very much still up for grabs. Jyri Lylykorpi stepped in to the second Nordsjoen up against the power of David Jundt and Gregg Lawson in the Red Archer.
Race
The start saw a rocket launch from Mark Wicks, with the Woods Racing driver jumping up to second place from eight on the grid. The Cornish driver evoked memories of a competitive 2010 season, but the flashback would last just a few corners. At turn five, Nick Rowland took third place from Wicks who would quickly get swallowed up by the following pack.
Nordsjoen constructors' title hopes looked very bleak after Lylykorpi put the car in the wall at turn three. The Finn never looked like recovering the lost ground and would eventually retire. Lee Morris and Nick Rowland then had a titanic scrap for second place with the pair dicing right up until pit entry.
Consiglio at this point was well on his way to victory with another dominant performance, and would go on to lap all but the podium. The battling Rowland and Morris were surprised when David Jundt revealed himself to be on a two stop strategy. The Swiss driver produced a silky smooth performance to keep his tyres intact for such a long stint that would see him finish the race second.
Lee Morris would take the third spot on the podium. The championship runner-up would make a very late pit stop and try to use a fresh set of tyres to his advantage to catch Jundt. The laps just ran out for Morris as Jundt’s result, coupled with Lawson finishing in 5th, delivered the constructors' title to Red Archer in what is just their second season in the GPVWC.
Dave Carr-Smith would take 6th following a sterling drive through the field after starting at the rear. Bart de Vos showed glimpses of what to expect from the Supercup champion next season in the early stages, joining in the battle for the podium before fading away as the race grew on. Ojay Clark would pick up his first points since joining Synergetic with 8th position and Ryan Walker, driving in his final race for TDR, rounded up the points in 10th.
