Mateusz Majka reasserted his authority on the 2025 Formula Sprint 1 championship with a commanding victory in Race 1 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, before consolidating his lead with a strong third place in Race 2.
Race 1
Majka's weekend began with pole position, and he converted it into a race win with calm authority. Giuseppe Saracino put in a strong effort for Team Shiba, moving into second early and holding the position to the flag. Andrzejewski had a less straightforward outing, initially defending well but later losing touch with the leaders. Scott Flack added another top-five result to his record, while Lucas Thylin, Oliver Taras and Lorenzo De Cuitis rounded out the front group with clean and controlled drives.
The midfield provided most of the action in Race 1. Lorenzo De Ciutiis worked his way up from twelfth to seventh in a confident display, while Frank Hamming secured eighth after holding off late pressure. Turri and Kuratko completed the top ten. Further back, Carl-Magnus Borre gained thirteen positions to finish eleventh, and Owen Kvilhaugsvik impressed with a charge from the back to twelfth. Zero-One teammates Jesper Eriksson and Ben Skinner both picked up points, with Ribolli just edging out Guzowski for the final spot in fifteenth.
Jasse Lahtinen failed to finish after a turn 1 pile-up on the opening lap. The same corner claimed multiple other drivers including Damian Kardasz and Vin Glenn. There were several more DNFs, notably Raymond van Soest and Philipp Koenig.
Race 2
In Race 2, Frank Hamming seized his opportunity from the front row, controlling the race from the start and claiming his first win of the season for HGP. Behind him, Lucas Thylin put in a calm and calculated drive to secure second for KKR, while Majka fought his way up from ninth on the grid to finish third. The result sees Majka leapfrog Andrzejewski in the standings, with 186 points to Andrzejewski's 175.
Several drivers made significant gains following a chaotic opening lap. Menno Klont gained seven positions to take 15th and his first point of the round, while Vin Glenn climbed 13 places to finish 16th. Wesley Stefano also impressed, finishing eighth after starting 19th.
As for the key incidents, Oliver Taras crashed out at Turn 9 in Race 2 while running well within the top five . De Ciutiis also retired early, along with Patryk Roszak and Lorenzo Turri; each a major blow to Shiba and Nexium's points haul for the weekend. Roszak had shown early pace but exited on lap 4; Turri retired on lap 3, due to a technical issue of some kind that caused a disconnect.
The updated standings reflect the momentum shift. Majka now leads the championship by 11 points, while Saracino moves up to fourth, edging closer to a top-three spot. Hamming's win brings him into a strong third place overall. In the Constructors' battle, Malta Force extends its lead, while Team Shiba consolidates second despite losing both drivers in Race 2.
Formula Sprint 1 returns in a few weeks' time, with the grid heading to the United States, where both title fights remain wide open.
