After a turbulent few rounds, Jan Granqvist returned to the top step of the podium with a composed and calculated drive at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, reasserting his control over the 2025 GPVWC Superleague championship.
Qualifying
The qualifying session was defined by changeable weather. A damp track early on transitioned to slick-friendly conditions in the final minutes, rewarding those who crossed the line last. Alessandro Maggio timed it perfectly, securing a stunning pole for Valle ahead of debutant Xavi Ros and championship leader Granqvist. Carlos Martin was the biggest loser, crashing out before the track fully dried and being forced to start at the back.
Race
Starting third, Granqvist made quick work of the front row and took the lead early in the race, never truly looking under threat. While others around him faltered or got caught in traffic after their stops, the Super Venturi driver executed a textbook two-stop strategy and cruised to his third win of the season.
Behind him, Maciej Mlynek continued his quietly impressive campaign. A clean opening stint and a good stop from HRT vaulted him into second place, ahead of polesitter Maggio, who couldn't quite convert his qualifying pace into a win but still scored a valuable podium for Valle.
The race confirmed HRT's revival as genuine. Rouault followed Mlynek home in fifth, easily his best finish of the season. Meanwhile, Valle can take confidence in Maggio's podium and Fletcher's finish in P12, although Sergio will rue a few mistakes and contact with other drivers that affected his race.
Championship picture
Championship challenger Loic Meunier could only manage P16 after a rough qualifying and minimal progress during the race, hurting his bid to chase down Granqvist. However, there are rumours that Granqvist could miss a couple of rounds. Tom Stevens, meanwhile, chose to attend a Guenther Steiner show as opposed to driving for THR. Will his lack of effort show through come the end of the season?
